Hamilton Boys' High School has arguably one of the most successful rugby programmes in the nation, and possibly the world; headed up by our Deputy Principal and coach Nigel Hotham. Under his leadership, and with the support of a committed coaching staff, our 1st XV rugby team have won numerous Super 8, Waikato, and National and International Titles. We are the current Super 8 Champions in both 1st and 2nd XV Rugby, and we have also won the Sanix World Rugby Youth International tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2014. Our boys went over to Japan in June of 2014 to represent New Zealand, and once again regained the right to be called the best school team in the world.
Hamilton Boys' High School also has a number of development rugby teams that are successful in their own right. They are coached and managed under the watchful eye of former All Black and Waikato representative Todd Miller. Below are a list of titles won by our senior rugby teams:
1st XV National Champions 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014. 1st XV Super 8 Champions 2013, 2014, 2015. Finished third in New Zealand in 2016.
2nd XV rugby team, reigning Super Eight champions and undefeated for three years and counting.
3rd XV rugby team, 2013 winners of the Waikato championship and Ian Foster shield.
Moascar Cup winners 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013.
Under 15 A Rugby team National Champions in 2013, 2014.
The school also caters for social rugby players, with over 20 social rugby teams of various ages and abilities.
