HBHS Junior Golf Championships

The Junior Golf champion was found yesterday at Horsham Downs Golf Course.  Eight eager and enthusiastic students took up the challenge, braved the heat and took advantage of the most promising junior, Cole Tosland (Year 10), being unwell.  It came down to one shot where young up-and-coming golfer Ricci Putohe (Year 9), who has only been playing for 10 months, shot 45, which was one shot off the joint winning score of 44.  This led to the first-ever playoff situation since I have been in charge of golf. Jakob Arthur (Year 9) and Thomas Ter Beek (Year 10) played the first hole where Thomas putted well on the first playoff hole to send it into another one.  On the second hole, Jakob took the advantage, being on the green for one.  Thomas had some issues getting onto the green but managed to sink a long putt to stay in the race, but it slipped just under the cup, giving Jakob the title of 2020 Junior Golf Champion.  There will be more events later in the term to continue this promising rivalry.  I highly recommend students getting into golf, as it's great exercise, a great challenge, and there are plenty of opportunities to play at HBHS.  One of my former students now earns what I earn in a year in 4 days of play.  Come on boys, get off your devices, join your local club and enjoy a great sport that sorts everyone.
