International Centre
The home base for the International students at HBHS is the purpose built International Centre, which was opened by the Prime Minister three years ago. This very attractive building includes the Dean of International students' office, the ESOL tutorial classroom, two large classrooms and a resource room. All ESOL classes from Year 9 - 13 are taught in this modern facility.
We are very proud of the special support and the programmes which we provide for all Non English Speaking Background (NESB) students, be they overseas feepaying students, new migrants, exchange students or refugee students. Specialised English classes are available at all levels, and these are taught by qualified and experienced teachers, who have a special interest in International students. Students are able to sit both the NCEA English credits and also Pitman and IELTS academic examinations. In addition, extra tuition in English across the curriculum is provided in small groups to students needing this extra help, free of charge.
As well as academic support, all International students are provided with personal support by the Dean of International Students who monitors their personal wellbeing, their living accommodation and their academic progress. This is to ensure that students are happy and settled and that they are making steady progress with their studies. Students can also visit the Dean in her office throughout the school day should they have a problem.
Hamilton Boys' High School is a multicultural school which welcomes the qualities and strengths which our International students bring to the school.
