Message from the Headmaster, Monday 24 January 2022

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

My very best wishes to you and your whānau for a very happy and rewarding year in 2022. I hope that you have all enjoyed the break and that you have been able to cherish the beautiful weather and the freedom we have enjoyed over summer.

I am looking forward to welcoming our students back next week, as we begin the academic year, and settle to what I hope very much will be a positive and successful year for your sons.

Over the break, we have continued to ensure that we can begin the year fully staffed, and I am pleased that we have appointed staff who will add much to our world. Among the new arrivals, we have four old boys joining us as teachers in 2022, which is very special.

As you are no doubt aware, we moved to a red light setting on Sunday night, so the beginning of our year will look a little different from what we had hoped. However, we feel fortunate that we are able to return to a relatively normal start. There will, however, be restrictions which we will outline, as a COVID readiness document, in a separate email later in the week, and any necessary adjustments will be made to the school calendar this week so changes can be forecast as quickly as possible.

Our focus is to move smoothly into our year, so that students have every opportunity to begin their year well, positively, and with the usual sense of excitement and anticipation which the new year brings. We are also very conscious of the need to maintain a safe and healthy environment, which minimises risk for both students and staff. I appreciate your support in ensuring that your son follows all guidelines and that he is aware of the serious situation in which we as a nation find ourselves.

Please read the COVID readiness document, which will be sent out later this week, carefully, and take time to discuss our situation with your son, before he begins the year with us. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us this week, as our senior management team and our support staff are all at school each day.

Again, I wish you every happiness for the year ahead, as we face the new challenges together, as the whanau of Hamilton Boys’ High School.

Arohanui,

Susan Hassall
