Oliver Leen takes out HBHS Senior Golf Trials

Seven senior boys took part in the Elite Golf trial for spots in the Super 8 Golf Team to be hosted by us at St Andrew's Golf Club on the 24th and 25th of February 2020. The top team was decided with an 18 hole playoff, and Oliver Leen (Year 13) shot his best round ever at St Andrew's to play at number 1.  Jakob Bird (Year 11) equaled Oliver and shot 75 to take out the number 2 spot.  Sam McArthur (Year 13), thriving in his new leadership role as a prefect, started the season strong with a 76 and will play number 3.  Todd Higgs (Year 13), who has been part of the golf programme since Year 9, shot a solid 78 to take the final spot.
Golf is a fantastic sport that can be played by all shapes and sizes.  I need more boys taking part as the numbers seem to be dropping rapidly.  There are heaps of opportunities in the Waikato with plenty of courses and driving ranges.  Golfers at HBHS are very lucky as there are a number of opportunities to play golf during the school day at some pretty amazing places around New Zealand.  HBHS Old Boy Denzel Ieremia, who was a member of the top 8 in 2013 earned more than I earn in a year at the Australian Open alone. Come on boys, get off your screens and get someone to take you out for a hit and try a sport you may come to love.
