The Careers Centre is a valuable school resource that assists students, through the expertise of our Careers Advisor, to prepare themselves fully for tertiary study or the workplace. Some of the services offered include:
Careers Counselling - personalised career counselling and self assessments to help students identify their strengths and interests. Many students have no idea of which direction they want to take after high school - an appointment with the advisor can often be a great starting point.
Career Resources - there are countless resources available in the Careers Center: university and polytechnic prospectuses, course flyers, information on different careers, videos, CD ROMs and web resources relevant to careers.
Organised Events - career expos, university/polytechnic visits, work experience days, visits from many tertiary education providers and private companies.
Interviewing - valuable information is provided for conducting a professional interview. Students learn how to make the best impression. They also learn about the questions most frequently asked by employers during an interview. To download common interview questions and general interview hints, click on link below.
Improve Interviews
Jobs - full-time/part-time, cadetships, apprenticeships, seasonal work. Job vacancies are posted in the daily news each day and thanks to the excellent track record of past students, Hamilton Boys' is the first port of call for many of our local employers. Information for Parents - parents are an important partner with the Careers Center. Find out about services, programs, events, and resources to help your son succeed with his career plan.
Handouts - students are able to take away many of the career-related handouts provided by the Careers Center. These handouts provide valuable career planning information and will assist students in selecting appropriate tertiary courses. Tertiary Accomodation Applications - the Careers Centre can assist students who are considering moving to another region for their tertiary study. Halls of Residence application forms are available for all NZ universities.
Scholarship Information - there are many financial scholarships available to assist students with their tertiary costs. Ask the Careers Counsellor about scholarships for you.
